Ireland

By: Melody Carlson

Book 1 in the Notes on a Spinning Planet series

Nineteen year old “country bumpkin” Maddie Chase is about to discover a whole new world. Maddie has lived on a farm in Washington state all of her life and has never flown on an airplane. Now she is leaving her home and country, to go to Ireland with her journalist Aunt Sid and Sid’s godson Ryan.
They are all thinking the same thing, an adventure waits. Back in the seventies, Sid and Ryan’s mother Danielle volunteered at a peace camp in Ireland, and now Sid has returned. Sid has returned to the Emerald Isle to write about the peace camps and whether they really worked to help keep peace. While she does this Maddie and Ryan explore the beautiful land and learn more about its terrible history. But these travelers have an Irish history themselves. Ryan’s father was killed in Ireland and Sid’s old flame might have something to do with it, and Maddie won’t rest until she finds out what really happened.
Ireland was INCREDIBLE and impossible to put down. Not only does one get a fantastic story, but you get to learn about Ireland’s history, even if it is a sad history. I felt like I was reading the best travel guide ever written. I loved reading about their adventures. Reading Ireland makes me want to go there myself, and now my mom wants to go there too.

My favorite part of the book was learning about Irelands history and exploring it.
