Kristen

By: Lisi Harrison

Book 4 in the Clique Summer Collection

During the school year Kristen is a member of the PC (Pretty Committee), but as the summer begins and the girls go their separate ways, Kristen can begin to be herself again. While the Pretty Committee is away, she can play. For 3 months Kristen doesn’t have to pretend any longer, she doesn’t have to pretend to be rich, or less of a brainiac, and she can still be popular without living in Massie Blocks shadow. She can now live her life, and enjoy her secret that no one else can know. That is because Kristen is the alpha of the WC (Witty Committee), a group of the smartest summer school students who impersonate their heroes and follow the motto BOB (brains over beauty). With Kristen’s group of summer friends, secret alpha status, and confidence she has gained, her summer can be anything she wants it to be. But will that all come crashing down when a cute surfer boy crush comes crashing into her life?
I have been looking forward to Kristen’s summer story for months, but it has only increased more after reading the other summer stories. After reading each of the other books I have become more and more offended with the clique girls because of their new way of spelling God. Ever since Bratfest at Tiffany’s the clique girls have been spelling God in an offensive way by spelling it G-A-W-D, and not just in an “ehmawgawd” way, but actually saying “I pray to Gawd”. Now tell me that is not offensive! But after reading just 5 pages of Kristen’s story I knew that this book was going to be my favorite, and that is because when Kristen said God, she spelled it G-O-D. Hallelujah! I actually screamed for joy.
But that is not the only reason why I loved this book. Kristen is my favorite of the clique girls because she is the most down to earth, well most of the time. She is smart and athletic, and has learned to dress in designer duds on a budget. I loved seeing Kristen forced to act more like herself than she has in a long time for a boy. I loved it because sometimes when I am reading the other books I hate it when she acts like someone she isn’t. In this book Kristen, and I think girls everywhere, will learn that it is better to be yourself than someone you’re not. I did.

My favorite part of the book was when the Witty Committee assembles.
