A few days ago Adrienne Lewis’s life was perfect. Not only is she a nanny for the Warner’s, watching 8-year-old genius Emma every day after school, but Emma’s half-sister Cameron befriended Adrienne too. Cameron had even given Adrienne some of her old designer clothes. Adrienne even had an amazing boyfriend, Brian. Adrienne was in heaven for those few days, but then the rumors about Cameron were proven right.
Liz Braun is Adrienne’s best friend and a fellow classmate of Cameron’s. She had tried to warn Adrienne that Cam was evil, but Adrienne didn’t listen. But when Cameron stole Brian from Adrienne, and told her that Cam was pretending to be her friend, Adrienne’s perfect life disappeared. But now she has a chance to make it right.
The Manhattan Cotillion is coming up and ten high society girls will be introduced to society and compete to become Debutant of the Year. Because of this, Mrs. Warner wants Cameron to bring a more socially acceptable date then Brian, and enlists Adrienne to help. Mrs. Warner is paying her to win Brian back before the cotillion. Is Adrienne up to the job or will she face disappointment a second time?
Manhattan high society has been portrayed in many different ways, but never like this. If you look at the Gossip Girl series, the girls only care about martinis, cigs, and sex. In the Confessions of a Teen Nanny series the society girls partially like that, but a lot toned down, which I really appreciate. I was very surprised to see rich manhattanites competing to become Deb of the Year. It was really fun to read something I wasn’t expecting.
Normally I would really be turned off by a book where a girl tries to win her cheating boyfriend back but this one I really liked. I think it was because I saw how manipulative Cam can really be. Between that and the fun of Adrienne trying to win Brian back, and the suspense of wishing that she would realize what a jerk he was for cheating on her, this book was really entertaining and addictive. I can’t wait to read it again!
My favorite part of the book was when Adrienne was trying to win Brian back.
